Our Simple & Effective Process

STEP 1

Apply Stress

Show up for training and perform three simple barbell lifts under the guidance of your Coach.

STEP 2

Recover

Emphasize high quality sleep (7-9 hours) and adequate protein intake (1 gram per pound of target bodyweight).

STEP 3

Get Stronger

After recovering from a workout, you'll be ready to lift a little more weight than you did last time.

STEP 4

Repeat

Add weight to the bar, three times per week, for several months and make rapid progress.

Do I need any lifting experience before joining?

Not at all. Most of our trainees have little to no barbell experience prior to joining.

Is this program safe for older adults or people with injuries?

Absolutely. Older adults respond to barbell training in a way that's hard to overstate. Discuss your injury status with your Coach; most can be worked around, and many can be improved with strength training.

How is Starting Strength different from other gyms or personal training?

Strength training is different from traditional exercise because it's a goal-oriented process. The goal is strength because getting stronger has the biggest impact on all of the outcomes that matter most to people: how you feel, how you look, and how you perform day to day.

What if I’ve never used a barbell before?

Then you won't have any bad habits to unwind 😀! Some of our trainees have never been to a gym before, let alone used a barbell.

How much does it cost to join?

Your first session is free. Next up is an Intro session to learn the remaining lifts: $185. Then you'll be training 3 days/week at less than $40 per session. We bill month to month and your first month is refundable if you are not happy with your progress. Just email us to request a refund if your expectations weren't exceeded, no hassle.

What happens during my free consultation?

Your Coach will teach you the primary barbell lifts and establish your baseline weights so you're ready to join your private group training session as soon as 48 hours later.

How often will I train each week?

Three days per week is the best way to take advantage of the "novice effect" and make progress as quickly as possible. We have one and two-day-per-week options if three isn't possible - you'll still make great progress, but not as quickly.

Will I have the same coach every time?

Yes. We prioritize the relationship between Members and Coaches, ensuring a deep understanding is built over time so we can best help you achieve your goals inside and outside of the gym.

What if I can’t do certain lifts or have physical limitations?

That's our specialty. We've helped trainees who suffered from paralysis and a trainee who squats with no ACLs. No matter your situation, our coaches can make sure you're safe, while getting stronger.

Do I need to be in shape before starting?

Not at all. Our most detrained Members, will start off with a broomstick instead of a barbell. No matter what your current fitness level is, our process will take you from where you are right now to significantly stronger, in a way that profoundly impacts your quality of life.
